More Variety in Streaming: ZDF Content Coming to Joyn
Mainz/Unterföhring, July 21, 2026. ZDF and ProSiebenSat.1 are expanding their partnership: The companies have reached a landmark agreement to integrate ZDF on-demand content into Joyn. Joyn is ProSiebenSat.1’s streaming platform. The operational launch is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026.
Through this partnership, ZDF and ProSiebenSat.1 are creating new access to high-quality media content and contributing to a diverse and future-proof media landscape in Germany.
Greater Convenience for Users
In the future, users will be able to access ZDF content directly via Joyn. ZDF on-demand content will be available on Joyn free of charge and ad-free.
For viewers, the partnership means, above all, greater convenience: Joyn users will then have – in addition to ZDF’s live channels already available on the platform – easier on-demand access to ZDF’s broad range of news, documentaries as well as its culture, factual, and entertainment offerings. At the same time, ZDF’s streaming portal will remain the central digital home of its public broadcasting content.
"Our mission is to reach as many people as possible with our high-quality content," explains Dr. Florian Kumb, Director Audience at ZDF. "By making ZDF streaming content available on Joyn in the future, we’re strengthening the visibility of public broadcasting journalism in the digital space."
Together for a Strong German Streaming Landscape
In an increasingly international platform landscape, ZDF and ProSiebenSat.1 are deliberately focusing on a partnership that strengthens access to journalistic and cultural content "Made in Germany".
Nicole Agudo Berbel, Chief Distribution & Partnerships Officer at ProSiebenSat.1: "Our Joyn users will benefit from ZDF’s high-quality content, as they’ll be able to discover even more first-class on-demand content in the future. This partnership demonstrates how public and private media can work together to find innovative responses to digital competition. In doing so, we’re sending a strong, forward-looking signal for the dual system and the media industry as a whole."
A Model for Greater Visibility of High-Quality Content
The agreement puts the cooperation mandate of the new State Media Treaty (“Medienstaatsvertrag”) into practice and represents a partnership-based approach in the digital media landscape.
The partnership combines public broadcasting content with the broad user base of an established streaming platform, thereby creating new avenues for accessing public broadcasting news, documentaries, as well as culture and entertainment offerings. This is based on the technical integration of ZDF content into the Joyn user interface, where the content can be accessed and played. Editorial control over this content remains with ZDF.
In doing so, ZDF and ProSiebenSat.1 are sending a signal in support of strengthening Germany as a media hub and increasing the visibility of high-quality journalistic content in an increasingly global competitive environment.
Viewers are increasingly consuming video content digitally, but high-quality marketing environments in the streaming space have so far been few and far between.
