Annual General Meeting: ProSiebenSat.1 remains on course for a record in 2011
Munich, July 1, 2011. After an
excellent 2010, the ProSiebenSat.1 Group will continue on its
successful path: "2011 will be a new record year for
ProSiebenSat.1," said Thomas Ebeling, CEO of ProSiebenSat.1 Media
AG, in his speech at today's Annual General Meeting at Munich's
International Congress Center ICM.
Ebeling confirmed the company's earnings forecast to the
shareholders for this year: "So far as we can assess the second
quarter of 2011 at this point, it may be slightly better than we
had expected when we announced Q1 figures on May 5. In terms of
corporate earnings, we expect 2011 to show new peaks for recurring
EBITDA and net profit." While ProSiebenSat.1 expects its
German-speaking TV segment to show a slight revenue growth for the
year compared to 2010, it expects significant revenue increases in
its other areas. The Group's revenues for the year are expected to
grow by a percentage in the mid-single digits.
This growth track is based on the company's four-pillar
strategy. Ebeling said: "Our four-pillar strategy puts us in an
excellent position to set trends and quickly make the most of
opportunities. The four pillars are German-speaking television,
international television, new media and related fields, and the
production and sale of programming content."
Further strengthening core business TV
Ebeling is sure that television will continue to play a leading
role: "TV is, and will remain, the most important and most popular
medium, especially among young people. TV usage in Germany in 2010
was higher than ever before." And Ebeling believes that TV will
remain the lead medium in advertising as well: "Television
advertising is the core of every successful campaign, because it
works fastest and offers the best price-performance ratio."
The ProSiebenSat.1 CEO is sure the company is well positioned in
its core markets, and will continue to grow profitably in the
future: "We're No. 1 in the German TV advertising market - the
third-largest TV market in the world, and the largest economy in
Europe. In the fast-growing markets of Northern Europe, we're No.
3. Our business model there is based on income from advertising and
distribution. That is a model that can forest the path for all
countries."
Ebeling believes that the key to success in the company's core
business of TV is excellent programming and convincing sales
concepts. The company also intends to grow by establishing and
building up young stations. "We're pursuing a clear strategy in
founding new stations. For ourselves and our advertisers, we tap
new target audiences that we formerly had no access to. At the same
time, our stations' complementary positioning allows us to use our
programming assets more efficiently." Over the past few months,
ProSiebenSat.1 has successfully established new stations in all of
its main countries, including women's station "sixx" in Germany and
"Max" for male audiences in Norway.
Expansion in new media and related fields
The company also foresees great growth potential in fields
directly related to classic commercial television. Ebeling
emphasized: "The ProSiebenSat.1 Group has long been more than a TV
company. We're a broad-based media company, and most notably, one
of the leading online companies in Germany." The Group is expanding
this position systematically.
Since the beginning of this year, for example, ProSiebenSat.1
has held all shares of Germany's largest video-on-demand portal,
maxdome. The world's fastest-growing segment of the entertainment
industry is online games. And ProSiebenSat.1 has been very
successfully offering online games for more than five years. The
acquisition of the game providers burda:ic and browsergames.de will
expand on that achievement. The Group's goal is to become one of
Europe's top three game providers. The company is also making
significant progress in its Commerce business. "This year we
anticipate to generate an EBITDA of up to EUR 30 million in
media-for-revenue-share deals," said Ebeling.
A global player in programming development and
sales
With the Red Arrow Entertainment Group, the company has
internationally rolled out the development, production and sales of
program content, and built up a global network of creative people
and producers. The Group is likewise on a growth track in this
area. Red Arrow already generated revenues of more than EUR 60
million in 2010. Its aim is to increase this year's revenue by
another 50 percent at least.
ProSiebenSat.1 remains on a profitable growth
track
Today, the ProSiebenSat.1 Group is already one of Europe's most
profitable media companies. Given its successes to date and its
strategic position, Ebeling is looking into the future very
confidently: "We have a very good strategic plan. In addition to
the sound growth of our core business in German-speaking TV, we
have set up three additional pillars from which we expect dynamic
growth over the long term. Until 2015 we will be growing at least
as fast as the market in Germany. In all of our other businesses we
expect double-digit growth rates."
