ProSiebenSat.1 Creates New Segment Structure for Digital Business
Christof Wahl becomes COO and Executive Board Member for Digital Entertainment Dr. Christian Wegner pushes successful Digital Ventures & Commerce business Conrad Albert establishes new unit German Industry Relations Munich, April 21, 2016. ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE is adapting its segment structure to the dynamic growth of the digital business. Based on their positive performance, the Digital Ventures & Commerce and Digital Entertainment divisions’ revenues have reached a relevant size. The Group is therefore replacing the former Digital & Adjacent segment, in which ProSiebenSat.1 bundled its digital activities, with the two independent segments Digital Ventures & Commerce and Digital Entertainment. The Company is thus confirming its ambitious growth targets. By 2018, ProSiebenSat.1 intends to generate revenues of around EUR 1.5 billion with its digital activities. From the third quarter of 2016, the Group will for the first time report on corporate development and targets on the basis of the new segment structure. Dr. Christian Wegner (41) successfully built up the Digital & Adjacent segment and in the future will be responsible on the Executive Board for the Group’s largest growth driver via Digital Ventures & Commerce. The focus is on the strategic development of existing e-commerce verticals and the establishment of new ones. By 2018, ProSiebenSat.1 wants to establish several verticals with annual revenues of at least EUR 100 million each. In the travel vertical, the Group is already far ahead of this target. The Group will continue to push its growth in this segment also via acquisitions. Successful transactions like Verivox and etraveli will remain part of the strategy. Currently, the Digital Ventures & Commerce portfolio consists of 60 strategic investments and partnerships. Christian Wegner is handing the Digital Entertainment segment over to Christof Wahl (51), who will be appointed to the Executive Board of ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE on May 1, 2016. Christof Wahl will also act as the Group’s Chief Operating Officer (COO). His responsibilities will include the Online Video business with maxdome and Studio71, Games and the fields of AdVideo-on-Demand, Ad-Tech and Data. ProSiebenSat.1 plans to rise into the ranks of the leading digital entertainment players in the German-speaking region and, in the medium term, internationally. In the Broadcasting German-speaking segment, Conrad Albert (48) has established a high-revenue, highly profitable and dynamically growing distribution business, which ensures the distribution of the Group’s TV offerings in the long term. A significant expansion of reach is also gaining strategic relevance for the Digital Entertainment sector. For this reason, Conrad Albert will hand the division over to Christof Wahl on May 1, 2016. Thereafter, Conrad Albert will build up the German Industry Relations division in his Executive Board department to establish relations with key German industrial companies outside the digital and media sector in order to identify new business models. Operationally, these projects will then be developed by the respective departments of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group. Dr. Werner Brandt, Supervisory Board Chairman of ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE: “The digital business has developed extremely dynamically under Christian Wegner’s leadership. The two strategically most important areas, Digital Entertainment and Digital Ventures & Commerce, have reached a size where it makes sense to split them off into their own segments. I am delighted that Christof Wahl will be taking care of Digital Entertainment at the Executive Board level. He has many years of experience in this sector. The establishment of the new German Industry Relations business, which Conrad Albert is taking on, will also be a crucial component for the Group’s further transformation.” Thomas Ebeling, CEO of ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE: “We have established and successfully implemented a powerful digital strategy in recent years. Digital Entertainment and Digital Ventures & Commerce play a key role. The new segment structure led by Christian and Christof puts us in an excellent position. We will thus exploit the potential of the two business areas and the opportunities presented by digitalization even more consistently. Conrad, too, is establishing German Industry Relations as a field that will give us new growth opportunities. I wish the three colleagues every success!” A recent interview with Conrad Albert, Christof Wahl and Dr. Christian Wegner can be found at www.prosiebensat1.com.
