ProSiebenSat.1 Group and Kabel BW Agree to Digital Cable Feed
Munich, February 6, 2006. The ProSiebenSat.1 Group has signed a contract with Baden-Württemberg cable operator Kabel BW for the broadcasting corporations programming to be fed into digital cable. Sat.1, ProSieben, kabel eins, N24 and 9Live will be available in digital form over Baden-Württembergs cable networks. All five stations will also still be carried on cable in analog format as before.
Additionally, Kabel BW will be carrying Sat.1 and ProSieben in the new high-resolution HDTV wide-screen format. The ProSiebenSat.1 Group is Europes first television corporation to broadcast two stations Sat.1 and ProSieben in the HDTV format in parallel with the standard format. Up to now, Sat.1 HD and ProSieben HD are only available via the Astra satellite system. The Kabel BW feed will allow the HD stations to appear on cable for the first time.
Kabel BW will show the Groups digital channels in unencrypted form. Any viewer who receives Kabel BWs digital programming can receive the ProSiebenSat.1 Groups digital channels over the existing cable connection, at no extra charge. Viewers who have no digital TV capability yet will need only an appropriate cable box. HDTV-compatible cable boxes and televisions are necessary for the HD channels.
Said Guillaume de Posch, CEO of ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG: Im delighted that weve now joined forces with Kabel BW. This will contribute to the development of digitalization in Germany. Now well focus even harder on developing new content and services.
Said Georg Hofer, CEO of Kabel BW: The agreement on digital distribution of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group has cut the Gordian knot on cable. Now all our cable customers can also get every station in digital format from us. This has laid the basis for a quick conversion to digital because in 2010, the politicians tell us, analog TV will be at an end.
