ProSiebenSat.1 Group and United Internet AG start video-on-demand portal maxdome

Hannover/Munich, March 8, 2006. In the second quarter of 2006, the ProSiebenSat.1 Group and United Internet AG will be starting the maxdome video-on-demand portal. maxdome offers a comprehensive portfolio of films, comedies and series, and it can be accessed either via a PC using a broadband Internet connection or via a set-top box and a TV.

maxdome is a strategic cooperation between the ProSiebenSat.1 Group and United Internet AG. With its 1&1, WEB.DE and GMX brands, United Internet AG is one of Germanys largest Internet providers and reaches around 18 million active Internet users. Both partners want to develop the video-on-demand market in Germany together.

Guillaume de Posch, CEO of ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG, said, DSL is a new way for us to reach viewers especially the younger generations, which grew up with computers. As a leading commercial television company in Germany, the ProSiebenSat.1 Group is opening up an additional level of program utilization with maxdome. United Internet AG is a partner who perfectly complements our competencies.

The strategic partnership between United Internet AG and ProSiebenSat.1 defines a new added value for DSL connection, said Ralph Dommermuth, Board Chairman of United Internet AG. In addition to Internet and Phone Flat, a comprehensive video-on-demand package is thus available for the first time as a subscription at a fixed monthly price.

The ProSiebenSat.1 Group has ensured a comprehensive rights portfolio for maxdome. Contracts with Paramount Pictures Global (e.g., Mission Impossible 1 & 2, Forrest Gump, Star Trek Nemesis), Constantin Film Verleih (e.g., (T)Raumschiff Surprise - Periode 1, Alexander), Kinowelt (e.g., Saw 2, The March of the Penguins) and Epsilon Motion Pictures (e.g., Million Dollar Baby, The Constant Gardner) guarantee an appealing range of movies. The Group is currently in negotiation with other Hollywood studios. Furthermore, the KirchMedia library (e.g., Seven Years in Tibet, Blade) is at the ProSiebenSat.1 Groups disposal for the video-on-demand offer.

A large selection of successful programs of Sat.1, ProSieben, kabel eins and N24 will also be available via the portal. Formats such as Verliebt in Berlin or ProSiebens new serialized drama Lotta in Love are even available for preview on maxdome before TV transmission. Access is possible both within the scope of a monthly subscription of various packages and also as single-streaming (24-hour pay-per-view). This means that the offer can be used as often as desired, like with a DVD.

maxdome will be available both directly via and via the 1&1, WEB.DE and GMX portals. For streaming to a television set, 1&1 will be launching a specially certified Thomson set-top box in spring of 2006 that is "ready for maxdome" and works on a plug and play basis between IP connection and television. The certification ensures that all demands made on image quality, encoding and security requirements are fulfilled. maxdome can be used as an open platform from all broadband networks and is not confined to any special form of access.

Within the scope of the strategic cooperation, United Internet is responsible for the streaming, billing and customer management. maxdome is produced and operated by SevenSenses, the new subsidiary company of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group. SevenSenses belongs to the diversification division and is responsible for the Groups new video-on-demand, IPTV and pay-TV portfolios. Both partners will support maxdomes market launch with substantial promotional, marketing and sales activities in the second quarter of 2006.

Encoding and digital rights management will be provided by entriq. This renowned US technology company will reliably protect streaming of the maxdome video-on-demand service against illegal data piracy.

Presentation of maxdome at CeBIT 2006
A pre-release of the new ProSiebenSat.1 video-on-demand portal will be presented to and experienced by the public for the first time during daily presentations at the 1&1 booth in Hall 16 at the CeBIT 2006 fair. Particular attractions are visits by members of the cast of the Sat.1 telenovela Verliebt in Berlin on March 11, 2006 as well as by the four finalists of ProSiebens Germanys Top Model on March 12, 2006.
