ProSiebenSat.1 TV Germany is the 2012 market leader in the demographic of 14-to-49-year-olds
Unterföhring, January 1, 2013. The German TV
station family of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group - consisting of SAT.1,
ProSieben, kabel eins and sixx - closed the year 2012 with an
audience share of 27.8 percent. Thus, the audience share of our TV
station group was 0.5 percentage points higher than that of the
media group RTL Deutschland (RTL, Vox, Super RTL, n-tv, RTL Nitro),
which attracted an audience share of 27.3 percent in 2012.
Individually, the TV stations performed as follows: SAT.1 achieved
an audience share of 9.9 percent, ProSieben 11.3 percent, kabel
eins 5.6 percent and sixx 1.0 percent in 2012. The TV stations
achieved a combined audience share of 27.9 percent in the fourth
quarter, reflecting an 1.1 percentage point increase over the third
quarter (Q3 2012: 26.8 percent audience share).

award-winning series 'Homeland,' the new soap opera 'Patchwork
Family' and 'Das große Promiboxen' on SAT.1, as well as Stefan Raab
events such as 'Absolute Mehrheit' and 'Die große TV Total
Prunksitzung,' Heidi Klum and her new top models on ProSieben,
thrilling European League matches on kabel eins, and the series
'Pan Am' and the second season of 'Sweet & Easy - Enie backt'
on our TV station sixx."
Highlights of 2012:
Two channels full of great music: Both
the final episodes of the first season and the second season
episodes of the music show "The Voice of Germany," which air
jointly on SAT.1 and ProSieben, fascinated millions of viewers in
2012. The show achieved an audience share of up to 30.2 percent.
The second season, which achieved an average audience share of 23.4
percent in the demographic of 14-to-49 year-olds and a reach of
4.07 million among all viewers, proved to be the most successful
talent show in the second half of 2012. The second season of the
"The Voice of Germany" was accompanied by tremendous growth of the
successful interactive online application "ProSieben Connect," with
which viewers can interact with the ongoing TV program either on a
computer, tablet or mobile device, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
This social-TV application registered about 30 percent more visits
in the second season than in the first.
In 2012, SAT.1 lived up to its
reputation for major TV events, including the successful
continuation of the "Wanderhuren" trilogy (26.9 percent audience
share for "Die Rache der Wanderhure"), for the outstanding drama
"Und weg bist du" (14.8 percent audience share) and for the film
version of the Ken Follett bestseller "Die Tore der Welt" (up to
15.2 percent audience share). Furthermore, premiere broadcasts of
blockbuster movies like "Alice im Wunderland" (22.0 percent
audience share) and "Zweiohrküken" (25.3 percent audience share)
were a big hit with viewers. The Champions League finale on SAT.1,
which earned a sensational audience share of 59.1 percent,
including the penalty kicks, proved to be the highest-rated soccer
broadcast of all time. And after a quarter century on the air, the
morning show "Frühstücksfernsehen" featuring news and entertainment
achieved market shares of up to 21.6 percent in 2012.
Market leader in 2012: ProSieben is the most-watched German
TV channel for young viewers. With an audience share von
19.9 percent in 2012, ProSieben was the undisputed market leader
among viewers aged 14 to 29. In the advertising-relevant
demographic, ProSieben was the No. 2 TV station in Germany, with an
audience share of 11.3 percent; and it narrowed the gap with the
market leader by a solid 1.9 percentage points. The best
blockbusters, the best sitcoms, the best shows: ProSieben has it
all! For example, 37.1 percent of 14- to-49-year-olds watched the
free-TV premiere of Roland Emmerich's apocalypse blockbuster
"2012," making it the best movie in 2012. The TV series "Two And A
Half Men" starring Ashton Kutcher garnered an audience share of
32.5 percent, making it the most successful new series in 2012. And
Stefan Raab put forth the best political talk show of the year, as
"Absolute Mehrheit - Meinung muss sich wieder lohnen" attracted
more viewers than all other talk shows in the broadcast week.
The ball is rolling at kabel eins: Attracting an
average audience share of 8.7 percent, the European League was
broadcast on kabel eins for the 25th year in 2012, to the delight
of soccer fans. In the TV series category, "Navy CIS" aired not
only on Saturday evenings, when it achieved peak audience shares of
up to 10.8 percent, but also afternoons, since October (peak
audience shares of up to 9.4 percent). Afternoon and early evening
viewership was boosted by series like "Ghost Whisperer" (up to 10.3
percent audience share) and in-house productions like "Abenteuer
Leben - täglich neu entdecken" (up to 8.9 percent audience share)
and "Achtung Kontrolle - Die Topstories der Ordnungshüter" (up to
7.5 percent audience share). The most-watched movie of the year was
"Terminator 2," bringing in a 14.5 percent audience share.
sixx doubled its audience share! The sensational
1.0 percent audience share in 2012 reflected a 100 percent increase
from the previous year (annual audience share in 2011: 0.5
percent). With great movies like "Zweiohrküken" (3.2 percent
audience share), "27 Dresses" (2.9 percent audience share), "Sex
and the City 2" (2.1 percent), the TV series "Vampire Diaries" (up
to 3.1 percent audience share) and the baking show "Sweet &
Easy - Enie backt" (up to 2.8 percent audience share) were among
the ratings hits on sixx that attracted audience shares well above
the TV station's average.
