Markus Breitenecker (born 28 November 1968 in Vienna) has been a member of the Executive Board of ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE since 1 April 2024 and, in his role as COO, is responsible for Strategy, M&A, Marketing, IT & AI, Regulatory Affairs and Sustainability. As COO, he is also responsible for the Seven.One Entertainment Group and Streaming, Platforms & Growth at Joyn.
Markus Breitenecker trained as a lawyer at the University of Vienna in 1992. In 1996, he was appointed CEO of 'The Weather Channel' in Düsseldorf, Germany. In 1997, he took over the position of Head of Sales and Public Media Policy at Kabel Eins (channel of the former ProSieben Media AG) in Munich and has remained loyal to the media group ever since. In 1998, he founded ProSieben Austria and has been CEO of ProSiebenSat.1 PULS 4 Austria ever since. In this role, he has experienced various milestones.
In 2004, he introduced the first Austrian editorial programme window on ProSieben Austria: AustriaNews and Café PULS. 2008 saw the launch of what is now Austria's largest private television channel: PULS 4. In 2013, he was named "Media Manager of the Year" (again in 2017). In 2014, he launched the bestselling and award-winning prime-time show "2 Minuten 2 Millionen - Die PULS 4 Start-up-Show" and 7Ventures Austria. In 2016, he launched the international digital festival "4GAMECHANGERS".
In 2017, he acquired the Austrian TV broadcasting group ATV and made ProSiebenSat.1 PULS 4 the number one TV group in Austria. The live TV streaming product "ZAPPN" was also launched in 2017. In 2018, he published the bestselling book "Change the Game", which he co-authored with Corinna Milborn. In 2019, he launched the 24/7 live news channel "PULS 24". Last but not least, he successfully launched Austria's SuperStreamer JOYN in Austria in 2023.
